About 5S Tradesman

5S Tradesman™ is a trade name owned by 5S Property Services, Inc. The vision of 5S Property Services, Inc is to expand around the country and around the world through franchising the 5S Tradesman™ trade name. By definition a 5S Tradesman™ is an educated, well trained and practically experienced individual in practicing a trade and quality assurance, who follows the 5S quality procedure when working on the customer’s property. The mission of the 5S Tradesman™ is to develop, achieve and maintain the property condition desired by the customer. This mission is achieved through providing installation, maintenance, repair and renovation services.

1. The Opportunity

5S Property Services, Inc. is looking for self-motivated tradespeople to own and operate a franchise as 5S Tradesman. As a 5S Tradesman you can provide all, or specialize in fulfilling needs in at least three skilled trades. You choose, or are given, a territory in which to provide services and fulfill the needs of customers. There is nothing as satisfying as having a skill that you can consistently apply and generate income for yourself.

5. Applicant qualifications

The qualifications sought for a 5S Tradesman prospective applicant fall into three main categories:

· Skilled trades training;

· Skilled trades business background and/or experience;

· Personal qualities; and

· Financial abilities.

5S Tradesman seeks individuals who have skilled trades experience with a strong customer service focus particularly in construction. Project management experience is an asset. We are interested in people with a proven track record of success, whether it be in their own skilled trades business or working for a small or large construction company. We seek people who are prepared for the physical and emotional rigors of operating a skilled trades business. More importantly the candidate should have the ability to relate well with people.

We make an evaluation of an individual's personality, qualities and characteristics, looking for integrity, honesty, sincerity, initiative and tenacity, to name a few. We want franchisees who will go into their communities, meet property owners and market their skilled trades services aggressively.

5S Tradesman looks for individuals who are willing to devote their full time and best efforts to the 5S Tradesman business.

6. Training program

The applicant must be willing to engage in a part-time training program. The training program is self-administered and all hours devoted to it are considered part of the applicant's commitment to and investment in becoming a 5S Tradesman franchisee. The applicant must also follow various workplace health and safety courses, some of which may have a nominal charge. The total training takes approximately 3 to 6 months to complete.

7. Financial requirements

5S Property Services, Inc. is motivated by the fact that "anyone who can do trades is in demand." The goal here is to empower anyone who can do a skilled trade to practice what they can do, make a little bit of money for themselves, and keep healthy. Therefore the outlay for 5S Tradesman franchise is kept to the minimum. This outlay ranges from $10,000 - $60,000. Much of the investment is in the vehicle and tools of the trade. Individuals with additional funds may be better prepared for multi-skilled trades opportunities.

8. Financing

Financing maybe required for purchasing the automobile and tools. We require that the 5STradesman franchisee put down a minimum of 25% cash as a down payment toward the purchase of the vehicle. The remaining balance of the purchase price may be financed for a period of no more than five years. 5S Tradesman does not offer financing.

9. Ongoing fees

5S Tradesman franchise is based on “Commitment, one year at a time.” 5S Tradesman requires payment of the following fees for a 5S Tradesman franchise.

· Franchise fee: $2,500 (Paid in first year)

· Annual license fee: $549 (Paid from second year onwards)

There are no ongoing monthly fees. So all the revenue you make from your projects is yours.

2. What services can I provide when I operate under license or franchise as a 5S Tradesman?

As a 5S Tradesman you can provide inspection, installation, maintenance, repair and renovation services.

3. What trades are included in the 5S Trades definition and licensing?

Trades are trades. The 5S Trades definition includes tree service, roofing, plumbing, painting, lawn, flooring, electrical, drywall, ceiling, carpentry (door and window, fencing, deck building, cabinets), HVAC, etc.

4. What is the 5S Tradesman license or franchise?

The 5S Tradesman™ license is the right to use the 5S Tradesman™ trade name and graphics as decor on your operating vehicle, and on your stationery - business card, estimates and invoices. The impact of the 5S Tradesman™ license is that it enhances your image and reputation as a tradesman in the market place. It shows that you are not a lone operator, but you are part of many and that boosts customer confidence to do business with you. In fact when you are overwhelmed with work you can network with other 5S Tradesman™ licensees in your city and those that are not too busy can help you take on some projects thereby providing unparalleled fast customer service. 5. Who can get a 5S Tradesman license or franchise?

If you have a certificate in any trade and wish to be an owner operator you can get a 5S Tradesman™ license or franchise. Also, if you have successfully operated as a handyman for at least 3 years, hence well experienced in trades, you can get a 5S Tradesman™ license or franchise.   

6. What is involved in getting a 5S Tradesman license or franchise?

To get a 5S Tradesman license you must be a practicing tradesman or handyman and must have a Cargo Van or Truck and tools of your trade. White vehicle colour is preferred because it allows for consistent look and image of the company as a whole. 

7. What is the annual fee for the 5S Tradesman license or franchise?

The annual fee for a 5S Tradesman™ License is a fixed amount of $549. Please contact the office for information.

8. Why is the 5S Tradesman license renewable every year?

The 5S Tradesman™ license is renewable every year because 5S Property Services, Inc. reserves the right to revoke the license from any operator if the operator under license fails to keep up with the good image and reputation of the trademark that customers have come to expect. The requirement for renewal also gives you the opportunity to cease being a 5S Tradesman™ licensee. Therefore, 5S Property Services, Inc has the philosophy of "Commitment, one year at a time" for its 5S Tradesman licensees.

9. What is the decor and graphics that I will use if I get a 5S Tradesman license or franchise?

Depending on your specialty, there are several graphics to choose from. However, you will specify your skilled trade service and your phone number below the graphic.

10. What kind of tradesman vehicles are preferred for 5S Tradesman licensing or franchising?

The preferred vehicles for 5S Tradesman licensing or franchising are Cargo vans and pickup trucks.

11. Does the license or franchise fee include the cost of putting the lettering on the vehicle?

No, the license or franchise fee does not cover the cost of putting the lettering on the vehicle. The licensee bears the cost of putting lettering and graphics on the vehicle. The licensee is also responsible for advertising their business in their local media.
